Andoni Iraola says he is hopeful for “good news soon” after Liverpool reportedly agreed a deal with Paris Saint-Germain to sign Bradley Barcola.

Multiple reports claim the two clubs have reached an agreement in principle that would see the winger join the Reds for an initial £100 million, plus £20 million in potential add-ons.

The 23-year-old, who has two years left on his contract, is looking to leave PSG in search of more regular starts after the two-time Champions League winners signed a number of attackers this summer. He largely played backup to Desire Doue in the team last season.

Iraola hopeful for ‘good news’ amid Barcola agreement

Speaking ahead of Saturday’s Premier League clash with Nottingham Forest, Iraola would not comment specifically on Barcola, but did explain how important it is for Liverpool to sign more wingers.

“As you know, we are trying to sign in that position [wingers], and as you know we cannot talk about players that – right now – are not ours,” the Basque native said in his pre-match press conference.

“But, it is evident that we are trying to improve or try to fill that position because we don’t have the numbers. I hope we can have good news soon but we are still not there.”

Liverpool have only made four new signings to date in this summer’s transfer window, but more may arrive even after the Barcola deal gets over the line. Either way, Iraola says he is otherwise happy with the squad at his disposal.

“I don’t know what is going to happen,” he added. “We have to be patient, even myself, for another four, five days and then we will know.

“I will be comfortable with the 2nd September, when they say this is who we are and this is the options we have.

“Right now, we don’t know. I have in my head, what I want. We have been talking since the beginning with the club and they all know what we want and then it is a matter of closing the deals.”
