Bradley Barcola is close to joining Liverpool after Paris Saint-Germain and Liverpool agreed a 140 million euro fee, according to L'Équipe. Lyon, his formative club, should receive around 3.5% via FIFA’s solidarity mechanism, roughly 4.9 million euros if all bonuses are triggered.
Lyon will not earn more, as no sell-on clause was included when Barcola joined PSG three years ago. John Textor led those talks. Barcola moved then for 50 million euros including bonuses.
Earlier in August, Lyon also earned money from Bruno Guimaraes’s transfer to Arsenal, estimated at 87.5 million euros. They held a 20% interest on Newcastle’s resale profit after selling the Brazil international in winter 2022. The club banked nearly 7.5 million euros from that deal.
On Wednesday, Lyon lost 2-1 at Fenerbahçe in the Champions League play-off second leg. The defeat cost them the potential income from the competition.
They must now stick to their original plan, with a budget aligned to the Europa League. The club also need to sell two important players before the end of the window.
