Erik ten Hag was unhappy about the reaction to Manchester United’s win over Coventry City in the FA Cup semi-final on Sunday, calling it a “disgrace”.

The Red Devils overcame the Championship outfit in a penalty shootout after playing out an entertaining 3-3 draw at Wembley.

But Man Utd did surrender a three-goal lead in the final 20 minutes of regular time, and were almost eliminated by a fourth Coventry goal at the end of extra-time only for VAR to rule it offside.

Asked if he understood the negative reaction to his side’s performance, Ten Hag answered: “No, absolutely not”.

“You asked the question: ‘is it embarrassing?’ No, the reaction from you was embarrassing. It is the comments,” the Dutchman told BBC Sport’s Simon Stone at Tuesday’s press conference ahead of their meeting with Sheffield United at Old Trafford.

“Top football is about results, we made it to a final and we deserved it not only by this game but also the other games.

“We lost control for 20 minutes, we also had bad luck, 3-2, 3-3. We were very lucky in the end, it is clear.

“Penalties was very good and we made it to the final, it is a huge achievement. Twice, in two years, is magnificent. For me as a manager, four cup finals in four years.

“The comments are a disgrace.”

Man Utd, who face Sheffield United at 8pm on Wednesday night, sit seventh in the Premier League with 50 points after 32 games. Ten Hag’s side have already lost 12 league games this term, their joint-most in a single Premier League campaign.
