FC Bayern continues to consistently pursue its youth development strategy. According to reports from South Africa, the Munich club has invited one of the country’s most promising young talents to a tryout. Emile Witbooi, a 17-year-old attacking player, has caught the eye of the German record champions.

For some time now, Bayern has been increasingly focusing on young players with great potential for development. Success stories like Aleksandar Pavlovic or, most recently, Lennart Karl show that the path from the youth academy to the first team has become significantly shorter again.

At the same time, the Munich club is pursuing a clear transfer strategy: young talents are to be signed early and either gradually integrated into the first team over the long term or sold on at a profit later on.

South African prospect set to showcase his skills in Munich

As John Comitis, chairman of Cape Town City FC, confirmed to South African media, FC Bayern has invited Emile Witbooi to a tryout. “We’ve received an invitation for him to join FC Bayern Munich, which we’re now considering—also for his own good, to see what level he can reach,” Comitis explained.

The 17-year-old is comfortable playing both in attacking midfield and on the left wing and is considered one of South Africa’s most promising talents.

However, FC Bayern is by no means the only top club keeping an eye on the youngster. According to Comitis, Witbooi has already completed a trial with Chelsea FC and was also a guest at Sporting Lisbon at their invitation.

The Munich-based club therefore wants to get a detailed first impression of the attacking player for itself before any potential transfer talks begin. It is currently unclear when the trial will take place, as well as whether any of the other interested clubs have already taken concrete steps.

With players like Lennart Karl, Maycon Cardozo, Felipe Chavez, and Bastian Assomo, FC Bayern already has numerous highly promising young players. However, the invitation extended to Witbooi shows that club officials are further intensifying their international talent search and aim to strengthen the academy with the best prospects over the long term.
