They face another team who narrowly missed out on World Cup qualification, with Romania similarly being dealt a semi-final defeat in their tie against Turkey.
Following the death of legendary coach Mircea Lucescu, Romania icon Gheoghe Hagi has taken the reins and pulled off a 1-1 draw against Georgia in his first match on Tuesday.
Wales’ friendly with Romania kicks off at 6:45pm BST on Saturday 6 June at the Stadionul Steaua in Bucharest.
Viewers in the UK can stream the match on BBC iPlayer and the BBC Sport website.
Wales are without Harry Wilson and Ben Cabango after both withdrew from the initial squad due to injury, joining an array of regulars who are sidelined. Captain Ben Davies has returned to contention from a serious ankle injury.
Romania have been hit by a plague of muscular problems, with Ionut Radu, Nicosur Bancu, Andrei Ratiu and Dennis Man all pulling out.
Romania XI: Tarnovanu; Sorescu, Dragusin, Ghita, Borza; Marin, Stanciu; Morutan, Hagi, Mihaila; Munteanu.
