Leeds United are closing in on a permanent exit for Isaac Schmidt, with a deal progressing after a move that did not work out. According to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, the 26-year-old is set to bid farewell this summer.

Schmidt arrived from FC St Gallen two years ago as a full-back but did not convince Daniel Farke in that role. His outings in his debut season mostly came late on in attacking positions.

He made 12 substitute appearances, totalling 71 minutes, in the Championship title-winning campaign, with his only two starts coming in the FA Cup.

Last season he joined Werder Bremen on loan, making 19 league appearances, six of them starts. He featured on both sides of the defence and further forward on both flanks, but the stint was not made permanent.

Interest emerged in Switzerland from FC Basel and Young Boys, and a switch to the latter is now firmly in the works. He is due to leave permanently, following Illan Meslier and Karl Darlow, who moved to Arsenal and Manchester United after their contracts expired.

Leeds will not currently sanction a move for goalkeeper Lucas Perri. The Brazilian has reported back for pre-season testing at Leeds Beckett and will train at Thorp Arch.

As it stands he is the only senior goalkeeper to have played top-flight football last season, so a loan is off the table unless reinforcements arrive later in the window. He has been linked with Torino, and he lost his first-choice status last season after two high-profile mistakes that Farke criticised publicly.

On incomings, Leeds are waiting on Southampton’s Shea Charles and hold interest in Sassuolo centre-back Tarik Muharemović. The Bosnian is viewed as an ideal replacement for Pascal Struijk after his move to Brighton this summer, and it could take a club record fee to bring the former Juventus man to Elland Road.
