Liverpool secured a much-needed win with Alexander Isak and Cody Gakpo on target at the London Stadium.

The day began with an emotional tribute to West Ham legend Billy Bonds who died today at the age of 79 before the ball started rolling.

Arne Slot made changes to his Reds side that lost convincing at home to PSV in the Champions League with Joe Gomez starting and Mohamed Salah on the bench.

Both sides looked cautious in what was a fairly uneventful first half with the game opening up more in the second period.

With an hour gone, Isak provided an instinctive finish from Cody Gakpo's pass to tuck the ball into the near post beyond the reach of Alphonse Aréola to score his first Premier League goal in a Liverpool shirt.

The Hammers struggled to really create chances as they looked to get back in the game, getting the ball about as far as the edge of the area before running out of ideas.

An attempt to get back into the game was hampered by a bizarre moment from Lucas Paquetá. The Brazilian was shown a yellow card for his protests about Darren England's officiating. After receiving one yellow card, Paquetá simply didn't stop despite his teammates and opposition players trying to calm him down leading to a second yellow card being branded.

That numerical inferiority allowed Liverpool to pick their spot in the counter attack with Gakpo eventually striking to ensure a 2-0 win.

Slot will be hoping that win will shift the mood now as the Reds move up to eighth in the table.
