CD Castellón’s win over Andorra came at a cost, with Jeremy Mellot and Fabrizio Brignani suspended after collecting their fifth yellow cards. The pair will miss Sunday’s trip to Valladolid at 14.00, putting Ismael Fadel in the frame, with Pablo Hernández to decide.
“We have also added a very promising youngster, Ismael Fadel. Some reports suggested he had been signed for the reserves, but he is a first-team signing,” said president Haralabos Voulgaris. “His situation is similar to Jozhua Vertrouwd’s first season with us, to train and compete with the first team while being available for the reserves if he has no minutes with the first team,” he added, speaking to El Periódico Mediterráneo.
Vertrouwd later joined Rayo Vallecano in the top flight.
Fadel, born on 10 March 2004 in Zaragoza, is a Moroccan defender who can also operate as a holding midfielder. He joined on 16 January from Yeclano in Segunda Federación and has already made three outings for Óscar López’s reserves, impressing immediately.
Standing at 1.90 metres with an imposing frame, he has progressed markedly in recent seasons and is regarded as a promising prospect.
With no specialist understudy at right-back, Hernández must weigh his options for Valladolid. Fadel could make the squad and even debut, but the final call remains with the head coach.
