Hugo Ekitike (23) has had a brilliant start to life so far as a Liverpool player. The France international has logged four goals, including one in the Merseyside Derby, for Arne Slot’s Premier League champions in all competitions since his €80m move from Eintracht Frankfurt. Ekitike was adamant that joining the Reds was the best course of action to take the next step in his career.

Speaking to Canal+, Ekitike said that signing for Liverpool was his choice. “This is what I wanted, because I had a feeling to come here, and I felt this was the right place at the right moment for me.” Ekitike adds that he felt better prepared and more ready to get to grips again with the highest level, eighteen months after leaving PSG. “I don’t think I got it wrong.“

The 23-year-old doesn’t think his remarkable debut with Liverpool has been a dream start. “I really worked for it. From the outside, it can be a shock for some, but not for me. I’m carrying last season’s momentum, where I had good numbers as well. I want to show that I can be a consistent player.“
