Didn’t Viljami Sinisalo do well standing in for Kasper Schmeichel and easing any worries among the Celtic support that the 23 year old Finnish international goalkeeper might find the Great Dane’s gloves too hard to fill…

Nothing could have been further from the truth and in a busy first twenty minutes Sinisalo shut down any debates about his capabilities in the Celtic goal with a very decent showing on his Scottish Premiership debut which included at least one crucial stop as the visitors tried to emulate their big cousins against the Champions.

All it took for Celtic to prevail was to get through that early period of Hearts pressure and Sinisalo certainly played a key role in that before his Celtic teammates got on the front foot and Celtic were three up before the break. Game over. Second half Hearts sat in to avoid a skelping and Celtic saw out the game in cruise control.

Afterwards Viljami Sinisalo joined man-of-the-match Daizen Maeda on the post match interview duties on Celtic TV and certainly seemed to have enjoyed his Scottish Premiership debut.

“It was great to be out there,” Viljami said. “We probably started a bit slow, and there were a few things I had to do early doors. But after 20 minutes, the team picked up, and it was a very complete performance.

“They were three very good goals and another three points, so that’s the main thing.”

On his own performance Sinisalo had this to say: “There were a few things that I could do better, but it was great to be out there.”

Whether the former Aston Villa keeper will retain the gloves for the remainder of the season should become clear tomorrow. Brendan Rodger revealed post-match that he had spoken to Kasper on Friday evening who told him he’ll have a scan on Monday and that will determine whether he can resume playing this season.
