Marc Casado looks increasingly likely to leave FC Barcelona this summer, but his next step will depend on the sporting project offered to him.
The midfielder is not expected to have a major role under Hansi Flick next season, and Barca would prefer a permanent sale to create salary-limit room.
According to SPORT, Casado’s agent, Jorge Mendes, is working on several options, with Italy now emerging as a possible route. AC Milan have been offered the chance to move for the Barca academy graduate.
The operation is not simple. Milan are waiting for exits before strengthening their midfield, and any proposal may initially be a loan with a non-mandatory purchase option.
Barcelona would ideally like more than €20 million for Casado, but that figure is proving difficult in Europe. Saudi interest has appeared, but the player is said to prefer staying in European football. That stance deserves respect.
Casado made a name for himself during his first season under Hansi Flick. However, his performances in the second season left a lot to be desired. That does not diminish his talent, though.
Casado needs minutes, but he also needs a league and coach that can help him grow. Serie A could be an interesting test because it rewards tactical discipline, positioning, and midfield intelligence.
Mendes has also explored the Premier League, Monaco, Portugal, and Spain. Betis are another possible option, although their finances may only allow them to buy a percentage of the player.
For Barca, this is a familiar balancing act. Casado has ability and academy value, but the midfield is crowded. If he stays without minutes, nobody wins.
A good exit would help Barcelona financially while giving Casado the stage he needs. The club should not rush the decision, but July now looks like the month when this saga will eventually reach a solution.
