Manchester United Women were destroyed 5-0 by a rampant Chelsea this afternoon.

The Red Devils were thoroughly outclassed from the first to the last minute in a one-sided affair.

Eva Olid’s thoughts

It has been a tough few opening weeks for Olid’s United, who now sit bottom of the WSL table after two losses from two.

Commenting on the match to the BBC , the Spaniard said, “Chelsea are a good side and we know we had to defend. When you have the ball, keep it longer and don’t lose the ball and create transitions. Keep the ball until we find the spaces to penetrate and create chances.”

Olid bemoaned her side’s inability to keep the ball frequently enough and stated that her side was regularly hurt in the wide areas.

She continued her analysis by asserting, “we can be better in and out of possession. We have to be better. It’s what I said to the players – that it’s just the beginning. It’s just two matches. It’s not how you start but how you finish. Now we need them to learn from the mistakes and grow to go from down to high – that’s our idea.”

The head coach reassured fans and stated that, in spite of next week against Arsenal being a tough test, her team is improving.

Terland is yet to score this season but was philosophical over her side’s loss. She explained, “we never enjoy losing football games and we never enjoy losing by five goals. We all want to win and that is why we play football, today we were a bit better than yesterday and some of the game was showing that. We can’t do anything about the result today, so we have to take the learning form the game and move forward.”

The Norwegian striker also insisted that playing under a new manager is a learning process and that the season has just begun.

Terland also defended her manager by claiming, “I think it has been very new and exciting. She wants to play attacking football, she wants to keep the ball and find a fun way of playing football. I think if we can get that to work, it will be a very fun way of playing football.”

She also assured fans that changing style takes time to adapt to and that everything will be fine moving forward.

United will next be in action away to Arsenal on Saturday evening at 17:30 BST.
