The Sky Blues suffered heartbreak in the summer transfer window as the club lost key players Gustavo Hamer and Viktor Gyokeres.

That meant Coventry had to enter the market and buy several first-team replacements, with some of them struggling so far to live up to the billing.

So, this transfer window will be seen as a chance for the club to possibly strengthen their promotion bid rather than weaken it.

Burnley, Leicester and Southampton interested in Callum O’Hare

It was first reported by the Daily Mail’s Tom Collomosse, that both Leicester City and Southampton are interested in a deal for Coventry’s Callum O’Hare.

Collomosse claims that as well as the two Championship teams being interested in the midfielder, Premier League side Burnley are also keen.

The Coventry man is out of contract in the summer and while Collomosse hasn’t ruled out a move happening this month, he states something happening in the summer feels like a better time for everyone involved.

It was then revealed by HITC, that Burnley as well as the two Championship teams have all submitted offers to sign O’Hare this month.

Leicester and Southampton’s interest in the 25-year-old comes as news, as neither club have been linked with the player before. But Burnley’s interest in O’Hare isn’t new, as the Clarets were reported to be close to signing him during the 2022 summer transfer window.

Burnley reigniting interest in Callum O’Hare isn’t a surprise

As mentioned, Burnley held an interest in Callum O’Hare during the summer of 2022 and it was even reported by TEAMtalk, that the Clarets were close to signing him.

However, the move never worked out, mainly due to a hamstring injury picked up on the eve of last season, and he has since stayed with the Sky Blues, worked on returning to match fitness both after that problem and then the long-term knee injury, and he has helped the club climb the Championship table.

The Premier League side are currently in the midst of a relegation battle, with them five points adrift of safety. So, in what remains of this transfer window, Vincent Kompany may be keen on adding one or two players to his squad to boost their chances of safety.

Therefore, renewing interest in O’Hare doesn’t come as a surprise, as while he hasn’t played in the Premier League, he could be the stardust they need to get out of the trouble they are in.

O’Hare missed a large chunk of this season through injury, but since returning to the first team, he has made a big difference in the club going from relegation contenders to play-off hopefuls.

The 25-year-old has started eight of the 15 Championship games he has featured in, averaging 56 minutes per game.

The attacking midfielder has already found himself being named in team of the week twice, as he’s got five goals and one assist to his name. O’Hare has so far got an expected goal rate of 2.32 and an expected assist rate of 1.03, as per SofaScore.com.

The Coventry midfielder has a scoring frequency of 167 minutes, with him averaging 0.3 goals per game, as he’s had 1.5 shots per game, with 0.8 being on target.

O’Hare has a goal conversion rate of 22%, while he has created one big chance as well as picking up 1.3 key passes, as he’s got an 87% pass accuracy per game, as per SofaScore.com.

O’Hare isn’t shy about doing his defensive duties, with him averaging 0.5 interceptions per game as well as 1.3 tackles, whilst he has recovered the ball 3.5 times this season.

The midfielder has completed 37% of his attempted dribbles and has won 45% of his total duals, leaving him with an average SofaScore rating of 7.14.

The 25-year-old has struggled with his injuries in recent seasons, an aspect that will concern potentially buying clubs.

But O’Hare has once again shown this season in limited games how good he can be, so it is understandable to see Burnley and other sides interested in signing him this month.

O’Hare may not be the sole answer to Burnley staying in the Premier League, but he can definitely add that bit of spark and creativity that they could be lacking in the midfield department.
