Tonight, Club Brugge face their toughest test of the Champions League so far. The Belgian side travel to Munich to face Vincent Kompany’s free scoring Bayern Munich. Club head coach Nicky Hayen, speaking to HLN before the game, was realistic about the task facing his side this evening. Hayen said ‘It’s almost mission impossible for us. But every match offers opportunities. Yes, we’re going to suffer, but we still want to make them doubt’.
Hayen’s realism is well placed, Bayern Munich have already taking a five point lead in the Bundesliga which they will probably maintain or grow throughout the season. They have won seven of their seven league games, with 27 goals scored and just four conceded. In the Champions League, Bayern Munich have won both of their two games so far, with a 3-1 victory at home over Chelsea and a 5-1 win in Cyprus over Pafos.
For Club, they will likely have not put much emphasis on the clash with Bayern Munich when the draw was made. Last season they performed well away to Manchester City, but this feels like a much tougher task. They beat Ligue 1 side Monaco in their opening game of the competition before a defeat away to Atalanta last time out.
