Liverpool have a fantastic striker ready to join their first-team squad. It’s time, that much is clear.

Liverpool are low on strikers right now. Hugo Ekitiké's injury has them down to just the one experienced option in Alexander Isak - a player who struggled for fitness last term.

Can Liverpool actually rely on him solidly for the majority of the season? Even if it turns out they can, it feels foolish to do so and Isak could ultimately use someone to take the pressure off.

Now, we do think Lewis Koumas can be that player. But why stop at one? Liverpool could absolutely take advantage of multiple young strikers to cover Isak, offering something different with each.

And they've got one in the Under 21s right now who deserves his chance.

Will Wright is thriving

If anyone still has doubts about Will Wright, he’s putting them to bed quickly. The 18-year-old is now a star for the Under 21s and showed it once again on Saturday.

Liverpool destroyed Brighton 5-1 at home and it was largely the Will Wright show. He scored twice and assisted another, while proving key in the buildup for a fourth.

That’s now five goals and an assist in four Premier League 2 fixtures. It’s a fantastic record but it’s the manner of the work that proves Wright is ready. His second goal, for instance, was an incredibly smart rolling of the defender before breaking through on goal and finishing perfectly in the corner.

It’s the instincts, the touch, and the ruthlessness that makes Wright stand out. All qualities that suggest he can take his skills to a higher level and deliver for the senior side.

Ekitiké’s injury provides the opportunity and we’re praying that Andoni Iraola takes a chance on him. Wright is a truly special talent and could well be the next star out of the academy.
