Florian Wirtz was one of the standout performers in Germany's 2-0 win over Serbia on Thursday, setting up Tom Bischof's opener before later scoring a wonderful goal himself.

“It was incredibly enjoyable,” Wirtz said in a post-match interview.

“Every single player left everything out on the pitch. We followed the game plan and got almost everything right," he continued.

“The players around me made it easy for me. We had a lot of movement. That's when you can shine.”

The game was made even more special for the Liverpool star as he wore the captain's armband for his country for the first time in the second half, after Serge Gnabry was substituted at the break.

“It's something special. It wasn't on my to-do list, but it makes you proud. I still tried to keep giving everything and make sure we saw the game out. We managed to do that,” said the 23-year-old, who will be hoping to build on his performance when Germany face Greece on Sunday in their final game of the international break.
