Middlesbrough are reportedly interested in a loan deal for Ipswich Town winger Jack Clarke

Middlesbrough have enjoyed an excellent summer, and as Kim Hellberg readies to put the finishing touches on his side heading into the final week of the window, a loan move for Ipswich Town winger Jack Clarke could be on the horizon.

According to Alan Nixon via Patreon, Middlesbrough are interested in a deal to bring Ipswich's Clarke to the Riverside on loan for the season to provide another option in their already-stacked final third.

Boro are also interested in Leicester City's Stephy Mavididi - as first revealed exclusively by Football League World - but may not be willing to part ways with the £6 million the Foxes are asking for, with Clarke viewed as an alternative option on loan.

Clarke, 25, came through the ranks of Leeds United, making 28 first-team appearances for the East Yorkshire outfit before securing a move to Tottenham Hotspur in 2019, where he struggled for minutes.

Loan spells at Queens Park Rangers, Stoke City, and Sunderland followed, where Clarke helped the Black Cats back to the Championship before signing a permanent deal at the Stadium of Light in the summer of 2022.

His excellent performances for Sunderland in the second tier tempted Ipswich to pay a potential £20 million for his services in 2024, where he has since gone on to score 20 and assist eight in 86 appearances across all competitions for the Tractor Boys.

This included his goal against Sunderland last weekend to give Ipswich all three points in their first game back in the Premier League, with Clarke giving head coach Gary O'Neil a lot to think about regarding his immediate future.

Whether Clarke's goal will have changed anything in Ipswich's plans regarding the winger remains to be seen, but Middlesbrough's interest certainly won't fade as long as there is a chance of a deal being struck.

Football League World's Sheffield United fan pundit and host of the Blades Ramble, Jimmy, has previously admitted he would love to see Clarke at Bramall Lane, but Middlesbrough appear to have different plans.

Upon his arrival in the summer of 2024, Clarke penned a five-year deal in Suffolk, with his current contract set to expire in the summer of 2029, giving Ipswich no reason to sell just yet.

The Tractor Boys can boast the likes of Daizen Maeda, Emersonn, Marcelino Nunez, Anis Mehmeti, Jaden Philogene, Kasey McAteer, Sindre Walle Egeli, Julio Enciso, Abdul Fatawu, and Chuba Akpom in attacking areas, as well as Clarke, giving O'Neil plenty of options to choose from.

Transfermarkt values Clarke at around €20 million (£17.1 million), though Ipswich likely have few intentions of making any sort of loss on the winger at this stage.

Despite his lack of starts in the second tier last season, owing to Ipswich's incredible depth, Clarke shone when selected, putting up incredible numbers in attack, whilst doing his bit off the ball, too.

Middlesbrough have spent big this window, and heading into the final week or so before the deadline, it's unlikely that Kim Hellberg's side will do so again, with a loan move the most likely option in any departure of Clarke.

Middlesbrough began their 2026/27 campaign with a 1-0 home victory over Wrexham in the League Cup, and followed that up with a 2-1 home win over Lincoln City in the Championship, before falling to a 2-1 away defeat to Blackburn Rovers at the weekend.

Boro have added seven fresh faces to the mix this summer, bringing in Radek Vitek from Manchester United for an initial £7 million, rising to £14 million to bolster options between the sticks, Ashley Phillips from Tottenham Hotspur for an initial £7 million, plus up to £13 million in potential add-ons, and Will Lankshear from Spurs for an initial £10 million, rising to a potential £20 million, to name a few.

Each of Max Arfsten, Sebastian Berhalter, and Kyle Joseph have arrived for multi-million pound fees, whilst Myles Peart-Harris initially kicked off business following his free transfer from Oxford United.

The loan market has yet to be utilised by the Teesside outfit, something they are seemingly looking to change with the potential capture of Clarke.

Boro, by all accounts, have had an exceptional window, and should they add Clarke to the mix, it would take a brave person to back against them this season.

With links to Clarke having emerged as of late, Middlesbrough's summer business doesn't appear to be done just yet.

Former Leeds defender Sam Byram is expected to sign a deal with the club on a free transfer imminently, bringing their total additions to eight, with a few key areas still in need of further reinforcements.

Hellberg will be more than keen to ensure Boro do not fall at the final hurdle this year, with a place in the Premier League the ultimate goal of the campaign.

Clarke's addition would more than help those chances, as the Swedish head coach prepares to add the finishing touches to his squad in the next week.
