David Moyes and Everton have received confirmation on whether they can call upon Jack Grealish against his parent club in the Premier League this weekend.

Everton’s start to the 2025/26 campaign has been one of the standout stories of the early season, with David Moyes’ side showing consistency, structure, and attacking fluidity rarely seen in recent years.

A major factor in that resurgence has been the electric form of Manchester City loanee Jack Grealish, who has rediscovered his confidence and creativity on Merseyside. Since arriving on a season-long loan, Grealish has thrived in Moyes’ 4-2-3-1 system, linking brilliantly with Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and Iliman Ndiaye behind a central striker.

Grealish’s exemplary start and four assists in August alone earned him the Premier League’s Player of the Month award; his first individual accolade since his Aston Villa days, and he has quickly become a fan favourite among Everton supporters.

Behind Grealish, the balance of Idrissa Gana Gueye and James Garner in midfield has given Everton a solid base, while the defensive stability of Jordan Pickford, James Tarkowski, Michael Keane, Jake O’Brien, and Vitaliy Mykolenko has ensured results continue to improve.

Six wins from their last 10 Premier League matches underline the transformation David Moyes has overseen, leaving the club sitting comfortably in the top half ahead of their trip to the Etihad Stadium.

However, as per Premier League rules, Jack Grealish will not be eligible to face off against his parent club Manchester City this weekend, in what will be a significant blow for Everton with the loanee having been in fine form.

Without Grealish, David Moyes could be forced into a tactical reshuffle for the first time this season. For City, Grealish’s absence removes one of the more emotional subplots from the fixture.

The 30-year-old remains well-liked among his former teammates, particularly Erling Haaland, who has publicly praised his revival at Everton. City staff will also be watching closely, with Grealish’s loan spell viewed internally as an opportunity to assess whether he still has a future at the Etihad Stadium beyond the ongoing campaign.

In the longer term, Everton’s reliance on Grealish only reinforces their ambition to make the deal permanent next summer. As previously reported, the Merseyside club are already exploring ways to turn his stay into a full-time move at a reduced fee from their £50 million buy-option – a conversation that could become more pressing should he continue to deliver.
