Jacobo Ortega close to Strasbourg move from Real Madrid | OneFootball

Strasbourg are close to signing Real Madrid forward Jacobo Ortega, 20, a Youth League winner in the spring. According to L'Équipe, Racing are prepared to pay 8 to 10 million for 50 to 70 per cent of his rights.

Madrid-born Ortega joined Real in 2018 and has yet to feature for the first team. He could become the club’s biggest sale for a player without a senior appearance.

Described as powerful, slender and skilful, he works outside the box, offers a strong focal point and runs in behind. Standing 1.90m, his profile is closer to Racing’s Joaquin Panichelli, and he studies Erling Haaland videos. His childhood idol was Brazilian Ronaldo.

He kept his cool in the shootout against PSG after a 1-1 draw, winning 5-4 on penalties. In the final on 20 April he scored with a deft backheel as Real beat Club Bruges after a 1-1 draw, 4-2 on penalties. He had been slated as the last taker but was not required.

Across the campaign he stepped up, finishing with four goals in 10 Youth League matches. He has come through every Real youth side, crossing paths with club legend Raúl in his coaching role. Ortega trained with the first team for the first time on 22 October 2023 under Carlo Ancelotti, but he has not debuted.

A former long jumper and sprinter, he is also a fan of the series Prison Break.
