Jair’s right adductor injury has put in doubt his automatic contract extension at Vasco. According to PaponaColina, the clause adds one season to 2027 if he plays at least 60% of matches in the second half of 2026, and a four-week absence now complicates that target.
The number eight had been on course, starting six of nine in this period. He went off early against Santos at São Januário, stopping a run as he became a key midfield figure for Pedro Emanuel.
The clause was set last year after a serious knee injury in his final contract year. Vasco extended his deal so he could complete treatment and rehabilitation at CT Moacyr Barbosa. It made minutes from the start of July 2026 the objective bar for another year.
His recent surge was seen internally as a personal and medical success after two complex knee ligament surgeries in under two years had cast doubt on his top-level future. After the World Cup pause he brought stability to Vasco’s midfield.
Time out reduces the fixtures available, which may force both parties to review his future if the threshold is not met automatically.
The football department do not release official return dates, though scans detailed the adductor damage, sustained while rotating his body to make a pass.
Jair has begun physiotherapy and regenerative work with the club’s medical team. The aim is to speed healing so he can push to feature in the run-in of the Campeonato Brasileiro and the cups.
