Vasco midfielder Jair has sustained a right adductor injury and will be sidelined for the coming weeks. The club does not disclose recovery timeframes for injured players.
Lance! reports that the problem was confirmed following further examinations.
He left Sunday’s match against Santos at São Januário in the opening minutes, going down unchallenged after shaping to play a pass in the attacking third.
After treatment he was replaced by Santiago Sosa, who made his Vasco debut. Jair went to the bench and immediately began icing the affected area.
Tests were carried out after the squad reconvened on Monday. The setback adds to a sequence of injuries he has endured at the Rio club.
Having suffered a second serious knee injury in less than two years, the number eight regained a starting role after the World Cup break and had become a pillar of the midfield alongside Pedro Emanuel.
