Jaissle gives update on Newcastle United fitness worry after progressing in Carabao Cup | OneFootball

Matthias Jaissle revealed Amar Dedic was withdrawn at half-time of Newcastle’s 1-0 Carabao Cup victory over Millwall after feeling discomfort in his hamstring.

Dedic was replaced by Tino Livramento at the break, with Jaissle explaining the change was partly precautionary and also an opportunity to build up Livramento’s minutes following his return to action.

“Amar felt a little bit in his hamstring, so we didn’t want to take any risk,” the Newcastle boss said.

“But it was also planned that Tino gets a bit more minutes than last time.”

Jaissle was pleased with the way his side dealt with a difficult test at The Den, progressing thanks to a Joe Willock winner, and believes their performance showed an improvement in the physical side of their game.

“I think it’s never easy playing here against Millwall,” he said. “So we were aware of it, we faced it and we did it.

“I’m proud how the lads were dealing with the challenge, how the lads also improved, especially compared to the first half against Bournemouth, when it comes to the physical level, to the fundamentals of the game. So therefore we’re really pleased.”

The Newcastle boss also urged patience with Matias Fernandez-Pardo, who came on as a second-half substitute, as the young forward continues to work his way towards full fitness.

“We need to be careful with such a young player who didn’t play for a long time over 90 minutes,” Jaissle explained.

“So therefore we see him almost like in a pre-season at the moment. We take that slowly and step by step.

“And then if there’s time to start, we will start with him.”
