Jaissle hails Newcastle’s brave bet on youth after summer overhaul and £51m swoop for Fernandez-Pardo | OneFootball

Newcastle United head coach Matthias Jaissle has said the club have been brave with their recruitment this summer.

Newcastle have had a summer of transition, with Jaissle arriving as head coach and a host of senior players leaving St James' Park.

Bruno Guimaraes, Anthony Gordon and Sandro Tonali were all sold for large fees, while Nick Woltemade and Kieran Trippier have also departed.

Newcastle have focused on emerging talent in the summer window, making eight permanent signings that are all aged 24 or under.

Speakingahead of today's clash with Bournemouth, Jaissle said the club have been bold in placing so much faith in young talent.

"Real clear idea on all the signings, a young squad in general. Young with huge potential. It's a brave way, but the way we want to go in Newcastle, we are fully committed to working with the lads."

Newcastle secured a £51m deal for Lille forward Matias Fernandez-Pardo on deadline day and the 21-year-old could debut this weekend. Jaissle is delighted to have welcomed the exciting Belgian to the club.

"It was an interesting last day. We worked ahead of time on that deal and finalised it in the last hours. I'm pleased and happy to have him on board.

"For a young age he's already showing a lot of strength on the pitch. A physical level which fits in well with how we want to play football. He's versatile in his approach, he can play in multiple positions.

"He's fit, he's training with us, but it's been a while since he's played a full 90 minutes.

"It's important for the young lad to adapt to our intensity and the intensity of thePremier League. We will have a close eye on him. We want to enjoy him for a longer period, not just for one game."
