Jaissle on transfers and Newcastle’s ‘special history’ in his first press conference at the club | OneFootball

Newcastle boss Matthias Jaissle insisted that the club’s hierarchy are aware of which positions in the squad need strengthening this summer.

The German manager was announced as Newcastle boss just six days ago after Eddie Howe left the club and has had a short time with the squad at their training camp in Spain since taking over.

With just a month of the transfer window to go, Jaissle was asked about Newcastle’s plans in the transfer market.

“I cannot interpret what is busy for you; probably it’s a different busy from what I think is busy. It’s a job for Ross and the management to find solutions, to provide something,” he said in his first press conference as Newcastle boss.

“We are all optimistic. We have time. I have been in Newcastle for 36 hours. I had a bit of time in La Manga already to get the lads better. We work on it, that’s all I can say here in the press conference. Keep the optimism.”

“We are totally aware internally which positions we might need to strengthen the squad. But this is nothing for here, for the press conference.

“We believe in the players that we have now,” he added. “And we had a chat after the match in Valencia where you were really happy that the young lads getting the chance, so that’s also the approach from this club. Every minute they’re getting, then they can grow.”

“There will be adjustments in the squad. We still have time.”

Jaissle was previously head coach at Al Ahli in the Saudi Pro League before taking the job as Newcastle manager. He spoke about how delighted he is to become manager of his new club.

“I received a call at the end of July, when it was clear that most likely Eddie would quit,” he explained.

“Obviously, if there’s first of all a club originally from the Premier League, and then also a club like Newcastle with that special club history, that fan base, that DNA, which is so linked to the idea of how I want to play football.

“There was no doubt or question marks, but to listen and take that process further. For sure, I had a big smile.”
