During preseason, there were legitimate concerns at FC Bayern about Jamal Musiala. Now, however, the national team player is back in impressive form.
Musiala had collapsed during two preseason matches. He later explained that he suffers from health issues known as “absences.”
This means he occasionally loses consciousness for very brief moments. While there is no major risk, seizures must of course be avoided, and his medication must be adjusted with great care.
Quite a few experts expressed doubts that Musiala would ever reach his absolute peak level again. Meanwhile, Vincent Kompany, Bayern’s coach, reported that the attacking player has trained exceptionally well and demonstrated an extremely high level of performance prior to adjusting his medication.
In the 7-0 win over Union Berlin, Musiala scored a truly spectacular goal. It wasn’t just any goal, but the crucial 1-0 opener that got the ball rolling. He pulled off exactly the same feat against Bodo/Glimt in the Champions League.
“I think this is exactly the step we wanted to take right now. It’s perfect timing before the international break. All doubts are gone. Jamal played 90 minutes and scored again. With seven goals, that might not look like much, but what he did was impressive. Now it’s all about his performance and the soccer—that’s what we have to judge him by,” coach Kompany explained to Skyafter the game .

The fact that Musiala scored two crucial goals gives Bayern hope. The fact that he was also able to go the full 90 minutes speaks in his favor as well.
It seems as though the attacking player is now finding his rhythm more and more. So exactly what the record champions had hoped for in the period following his return is happening.
Not everything is working perfectly yet—you can tell that from the player’s actions—but he’s clearly enjoying playing soccer and causing trouble in tight spaces again. The fact that he’s now spending the full three weeks with the German national team can only be a positive for him, as he can train regularly there—something that isn’t possible at FCB given the many players called up for international matches.
Musiala himself is also pleased with the latest developments: “I feel really good. Every game is a step forward. I know I can take even more steps. But playing 90 minutes again is a great feeling.”
