Jamal Musiala is set to miss Bayern Munich’s Bundesliga opener against VfB Stuttgart on Friday as the champions ease the 23-year-old back after two pre-season collapses.

Kicker and Bild report that Bayern will be without the Germany international for the 2026/27 curtain-raiser, and that while he is expected to return to team training this week, he will not be in the matchday squad.

Musiala collapsed during friendlies against RB Leipzig and Heidenheim, then disclosed a diagnosis of absence seizures linked to a neurological dysfunction.

He is now working closely with Bayern’s medical staff and head coach Vincent Kompany to adjust and properly regulate his medication, aiming to reduce the risk of further episodes.

With Musiala unavailable, Nathaniel Brown could again operate as a central attacking midfielder, having started there in Saturday’s 2-1 DFL-Supercup win over Borussia Dortmund.

Kompany could also turn to new signing Ismael Saibari, who is continuing to build fitness after recovering from the injury he suffered for Morocco during the World Cup.
