Jamal Musiala collapsed on the pitch for the second time in a matter of days during Bayern Munich’s 4-2 friendly win over 1. FC Heidenheim on Tuesday, having also suffered a similar incident in Saturday’s 3-1 Telekom Cup victory over RB Leipzig.

The Germany international took to Instagram after the game to explain the reason behind the collapses, revealing that he had been “diagnosed with brief, temporary but easily treatable episodes of absence, which are caused by a neurological dysfunction.”

Musiala also stated he remains “optimistic” about his treatment and the continuation of his career.

German press agency DPA has since spoken to Bayern Munich sources, who stressed that there is currently no indication that Musiala’s career is at risk following his diagnosis.

The sources said there is no evidence that Musiala can't continue playing at the highest level, adding that his involvement in the last two matches had been “completely unproblematic” and had been discussed extensively with doctors.

Bayern will play their first competitive game of the new season on Saturday, when they face Borussia Dortmund at Signal Iduna Park in the DFL-Supercup.

There has been no prognosis from the German champions regarding how Musiala’s situation will develop in the coming days and weeks.
