James McClean aimed an X-rated gesture at Leicester City supporters during his Wrexham farewell at the Racecourse Ground on Tuesday.
Leicester earned a 1-1 draw in the Championship, with goals from Lewis O'Brien and Jannik Vestergaard. According to LeicesterMercury.co.uk, after the final whistle the 36-year-old raised both middle fingers towards the away end having applauded the home support.
Wrexham had confirmed at the weekend that McClean had left with immediate effect as he looks to return to his home nation and sign for Derry City. He attended the match to say goodbye.
In an Instagram post afterwards, he thanked Wrexham fans for their send-off and delivered an expletive-laden sign-off aimed at away followings.
Despite the incident, it appears he will avoid punishment, as he will no longer be under English FA jurisdiction once he joins Derry City.
Earlier, McClean shared a lengthy tribute reflecting on a hugely enjoyable couple of years at Wrexham. He thanked @vancityreynolds and @robmac, staff across the club and the fanbase, praised the togetherness of the dressing room and said the club showed class in easing his move home. He admitted wishing he had joined earlier in his career and wished the Red Dragons further success.
