West Brom are looking for more fresh faces ahead of Tuesday night's transfer deadline

West Brom have had an impressive start to their 2026-27 Championship season - and there may be more positive news on the way due to James Morrison's transfer update.

Some Baggies fans perhaps didn't expect such a whirlwind start to the current campaign, with the maximum six points taken from two tricky fixtures on paper in Norwich City away and Burnley at home.

Albion even valiantly battled against Newcastle United of the Premier League earlier this week in the EFL Cup, only to fall short 3-2 at St. James' Park, showing that they're going to be a credible threat to their Championship rivals for the whole season.

Of course, whilst there's football still to be played in the next few days, with West Brom facing Middlesbrough on Saturday afternoon and then Charlton Athletic next Wednesday, the transfer window will slam shut on Tuesday, with clubs now scrambling to get deals over the line.

Eight new faces have arrived at The Hawthorns this summer, with one of them being familiar to the club already in the form of former left-back Conor Townsend, with the average age of the new recruits being 25 - and even that has been increased only due to Townsend's arrival and the acquisition of reserve goalkeeper Matt Ingram.

"I am hopeful," Morrison told the BBC in regards to potential incomings.

"There's been a lot of hard work been going on behind the scenes.

"We have to do things a little bit differently, we have to be clever about it and I felt that we've been doing that because we've had a lot of signings."

Toby Collyer deal could be the start of exciting few days for West Brom

Whether Morrison's update is factoring in the imminent arrival of Toby Collyer from Man United remains to be seen, with the 22-year-old on the verge of joining Albion for an initial £3 million fee.

Add-ons could take the total value of the deal to £7.6 million, but it all relies on achievable add-ons, as well as factors such as West Brom making it back to the Premier League, as well as playing in European competition, as well as Collyer himself being capped by England.

Collyer - who has racked up 13 senior appearances for the Red Devils - spent time on loan at the Baggies last season, often coming off the bench following his arrival from Old Trafford, but he would spend nearly a month on the sidelines with a hamstring injury last October, and then he featured just three more times before being withdrawn after just 11 minutes against Birmingham City in November after suffering a 'significant' calf problem.

He would head to Hull City for the remainder of the campaign and was part of the Tigers side that were promoted to the Premier League, but he only featured five times and played no part of the play-offs at all after suffering a training ground ankle injury.

Like West Brom, Hull were keen to bring Collyer back but on a permanent basis this summer, but it's Albion where the midfielder has chosen for his next move, and if Morrison's words come to fruition, he may be joined by more fresh faces.

There's been some really smart business done from West Brom's recruitment team this summer, with the average age of the squad pushed down dramatically, and then you've got players like Harry Whitwell from the academy making a real impact.

There's still a need to add some more bodies though before the window slams shut on Tuesday, and they perhaps need to focus on their defensive unit more than anything.

Another right-back was on the agenda - namely Issa Kabore - in recent weeks to compete with Nolan Galves, only for Wrexham to swoop in and re-sign the Man City man on a permanent basis.

And whilst George Campbell can cover in that area, the American is naturally a centre-back, and even that position is one where the Baggies are thin on the ground, with Nat Phillips and Chris Mepham the only other options.
