Leeds United have made England goalkeeper James Trafford their record signing in a £40m plus add-ons deal from Manchester City, a fee that also makes the 23-year-old the most expensive British goalkeeper.

“Obviously the club, they want to take the club to where it's been historically and I think everyone here believes that's going to happen. They are clear in what they want and with full belief that it's going to happen,” he told LUTV.

Leeds prioritised a new number one before their second season back in the Premier League, with Trafford identified as the top target a year after his move to City. He re-joined City from Burnley for £27m last summer and looked set to be first choice until Gianluigi Donnarumma arrived and took the role.

Trafford made four Premier League starts last term but kept goal in both domestic cups as City completed an FA Cup and League Cup double. The transfer also eclipses Leeds’ previous record outlay of £35.5m on Georginio Rutter.
