James Ward-Prowse set to return to Southampton

Midfielder James Ward-Prowse is close to returning to Southampton three years after leaving the club.

The set-piece specialist left the club to join West Ham United early in the 2023/24 season for a reported fee of £30 million.

However, despite a strong first season in which the former England international scored seven goals and made 11 assists in 51 appearances, his time with the Hammers became difficult. Indeed, Ward-Prowse ended up spending the second half of last season on loan at Burnley.

Now, the 31-year-old could return to the Saints with The Athletic reporting that the two sides have agreed a fee for the player.

Ward-Prowse came through the academy and went on to feature 409 times for the club, scoring 55 goals.
