We’re now more than halfway through the Premier League season, and on the Sky Sports “Overlap” show they went to look back at this summer’s striker transfers to see who had succeeded and who hadn’t.
When it came to Liam Delap, it was pretty negative all round, with Jamie Carragher making the most detailed point on why he thought it hadn’t worked.

“It was a bad move, honestly, to Chelsea,” the former Liverpool defender said.
“I just think young players, when they’re on a journey getting better, this idea that the jump for me from Ipswich to Chelsea is too big, you need something in the middle.
“Everton, playing centre forward for Everton every game and knowing even if you have a few bad games or you’re injured, you’re going to play again.”
There is some sense to that. We see why Chelsea took a punt on him, given the release clause that made him a tempting price. But as it stands he doesn’t look good enough to be a starter, and that means he’s not going to get the games he needs to improve.
We hate to admit it, but Carragher is probably right that an intermediate move would have helped.
You can see Carragher speaking in the clip embedded here, with the Delap conversation coming after one hour and twelve minutes:
Bart Verbruggen is being heavily linked with a massive money move to Chelsea this summer, but for a number of reasons we simply can’t see it happening.
Chelsea are already looking forward to their summer business, and it seems like they will be jostling for one of the top free agents available in the Premier League this summer, breaking their usual pattern.
