Rebekah Vardy has praised Sheffield Wednesday owner David Storch after the club tried to sign her husband Jamie in the summer.

Rebekah Vardy has praised new Sheffield Wednesday owner David Storch, as she urged the club's fans to ‘trust the process’ at Hillsborough.

It has been a chaotic period for the Owls, who suffered an inevitable relegation from the Championship last season after the mismanagement of Dejphon Chansiri left them on the brink.

Yet, after months of speculation, Arise Capital Partners - led by the aforementioned Storch - completed their takeover of the South Yorkshire outfit in May, and a major overhaul of the playing squad, as well as off the field staff, took place during the summer to ensure they were ready to be competitive this season.

The early signs are positive on that front, as Henrik Pedersen’s side sit second in League One, and many of the new signings appear to have settled quickly.

Whilst fans will be delighted at the shape of the squad, there was one slight disappointment - that Wednesday couldn’t get a deal over the line for Jamie Vardy.

The striker, who is a boyhood fan, was a free agent after leaving Cremonese in the summer, and a return to Sheffield was discussed for the Premier League winner.

Yet, despite Storch confirming they were ‘figuring’ out a way to try and make it work under their restrictions, a deal couldn’t be agreed, and Vardy ultimately joined Championship strugglers Burnley until the summer of 2027.

That was a setback for Wednesday, as Vardy could’ve been a huge asset both on and off the pitch for Pedersen this season.

Nevertheless, there was an understanding among the supporters that this was always going to be a difficult move to make happen for numerous reasons.

But, even though Vardy didn’t sign for Sheffield Wednesday, it appears Storch made a positive impression on the family.

That’s after Vardy’s wife, Rebekah, praised Storch on her Instagram Story after she was asked whether her husband would ever play for the Owls, posting: “What I will say is (that) you have an incredible owner who is moving mountains to make your club great again! Trust the process.”

It suggests that there were indeed some talks between Storch and the Vardy's regarding a return, but the veteran ex-England international striker opted to wait it out and grabbed a chance with a Championship club instead.

Sheffield Wednesday are heading in the right direction after takeover

This is very nice for Sheffield Wednesday fans to read, as under Chansiri there was a feeling that the club weren’t taken seriously, but now they are clearly a much more professional outfit.

Of course, it’s a shame that Vardy didn’t join the club he supports, but, as outlined above, it was going to be difficult from a financial and sporting perspective to make it happen in the circumstances.

But, Storch obviously sold the project very well to Vardy and his family, and that bodes very well for the direction that the Owls are heading.

The club had a very productive transfer window, and despite the huge turnover of players, Pedersen has managed to build a cohesive team in the opening month of the season.

Obviously, there is plenty of room for improvement, and playing for Sheffield Wednesday in League One is always going to bring scrutiny, but the hierarchy at Hillsborough will be pleased at how things are going at the moment.
