Janik Haberer will leave Freiburg on a free transfer this summer and head to Union Berlin after six years with the Breisgau-Brasilianers, according to Kicker.
In March, Freiburg’s sporting director Jochen Saier admitted: “We are currently assuming that Janik will be looking for a new challenge.”
The midfielder’s new challenge looks set to take place in the capital as Union look set to announce their new signing.
Haberer had also attracted the attention of other Bundesliga clubs including FC Köln, Mainz 05, Bochum and newly promoted Schalke 04.
However, the 28-year-old, who played 169 competitive games for Freiburg has his sights set on Union Berlin.
As long as there is no last-minute change of heart, Haberer’s signing with Union can be expected in the very near future.
