Jannik Vestergaard has retired from football at 34.

“I’ve started to feel a sense of weariness. A feeling that my motivation isn’t just on the decline, but that it’s no longer really there. It feels right to retire now,” Vestergaard told Politiken.

The Danish international has been without a club since leaving Leicester City in the summer.

He made 185 Bundesliga appearances for TSG Hoffenheim, Werder Bremen and Borussia Mönchengladbach before joining Southampton, then Leicester City.

Vestergaard won 59 caps for Denmark, scoring three goals.
