Leicester City are awaiting the outcome of Jannik Vestergaard’s ankle assessment after the defender hobbled out of Saturday’s 2-0 FA Cup win at Cheltenham. According to LeicesterMercury.co.uk, Abdul Fatawu was rested and is completely fine for the trip to Coventry.

Vestergaard was making his first start since recovering from a head injury at QPR last month, and he was withdrawn early in the second half at the EV Charger Points Stadium.

On a pitch that became increasingly bobbly as the afternoon wore on, he twisted his ankle and it swelled. He will be assessed to determine the severity and whether he will miss next weekend’s M69 Derby at Championship leaders Coventry.

If he is sidelined, City may head to the CBS Arena without any cover at centre-back. Ben Nelson and Caleb Okoli would start. Wout Faes does not appear to be in contention amid doubts around his future, while Harry Souttar is recovering from minor surgery.

The manager said Vestergaard had twisted his ankle and that it swelled quickly, with tests planned. He added that he hopes the issue is not a big one.

Vestergaard was one of eight changes to the starting line-up, and only two players dropped out of the squad entirely. Jakub Stolarczyk still travelled, while Fatawu was rested after starting every Championship game, having felt small niggles and fatigue.
