Porto hosted Japan’s ambassador to Portugal, Nakagawa Tsutomu, at Estádio do Dragão, a visit the club said in a statement reinforced institutional ties and deepened dialogue with a key Asian market.
Nakagawa, in post for about three months, was accompanied by Kobayashi Yuma, second secretary for economic affairs at the Japanese Embassy, and Isabel Azeredo, Japan’s honorary consul in Porto.
The delegation was received by António Tavares, chair of Porto’s General Assembly, João Borges, vice-president and chief operating officer, and Michele Montesi, the club’s chief strategy officer.
Nakagawa described Portugal as significant in European and international football and portrayed Porto as the Portuguese club with the widest global reach, pointing to its history, competitive culture and player development as a reference for progress in Japan.
Montesi called the meeting an important step in strengthening Porto’s institutional relations internationally, adding that Japan is strategically important and shares values around sport, youth development and innovation, laying foundations for future collaboration opportunities.
