Javier Aguirre lands in Valencia to lead relegation fight | OneFootball

Javier Aguirre landed at Manises this morning after a long trip from Mexico to take charge of Valencia’s survival fight.

According to Superdeporte, he cited the club’s history and the strength of its support as key reasons. He said there is plenty of league and much work ahead.

He argued Valencia are not built to suffer and will try to get the best from the players. He felt the team have deserved more in some games, and said he has spoken only with Braulio, not the Lim family.

He was unveiled on Wednesday morning, after which Braulio said Aguirre is not daunted. They spoke for over an hour after the Vitoria match as he requested games to analyse, and coming from coaching Mexico it is an important challenge for him.

His first session is this morning at the Ciudad Deportiva de Paterna with assistants Toni Amor and Pol Lorente, alongside existing staff.

Valencia are second-bottom in LaLiga and Aguirre must lift results and mood. He has overseen similar turnarounds across his career.

Aguirre has signed to the end of the season, with an extra year if Europa League qualification is achieved. Braulio added that, even without that, a renewal could be discussed if they are satisfied, and no coach is signed for next season.
