Girona FC has reached an agreement with Atlético de Madrid for the transfer of Javier Boñar, who becomes the newest player of the red-and-white first team. The Madrid-born defender, 21 years old, signs a contract with Girona FC for the next four seasons, until June 30, 2030.

Boñar is a physical and versatile right-back, capable of also playing as a central defender. He stands out for his stamina, speed, defensive intensity, and ability to join the attack, as well as his strength in duels and his commitment in both phases of the game. His versatility and work ethic have made him an important player in Atlético de Madrid's youth categories.

Born in Madrid on June 3, 2005, Boñar joined Atlético's Academy in 2012 at just seven years old and completed all his training at the Madrid club. Initially, he developed as a central defender before transitioning to a right-back under the guidance of Fernando Torres, a position in which he has solidified his progression.

The 2025/26 season was particularly notable in his career. With Atlético Madrileño, he played 35 Primera Federación matches, all as a starter, scoring four goals and providing nine assists. Simultaneously, he made the leap to Atlético de Madrid's first team, playing 16 LaLiga matches, three of them as a starter, accumulating 299 minutes and scoring one goal.

His debut with the first team came on April 14, 2026, against Sevilla at the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán. Boñar played the full 90 minutes and scored Atlético's goal, becoming the youngest defender in the club's history to score on his first-team debut.

An international in Spain's youth categories, Boñar arrives in Girona after having completed a career entirely linked to Atlético de Madrid, with the goal of continuing his development in professional football.
