Javier Zanetti, Esteban Cambiasso and Javier Pastore issued a joint Instagram statement backing Gianni Infantino ahead of FIFA elections on Tuesday. According to L'Équipe, it followed calls from former internationals, including several French, for a change in FIFA’s governance.

They said current and former professionals have been given a voice and an active role through involvement in committees, projects and working groups.

They stressed that their opinions are being heard across the game.

They added that many initiatives beneficial to football are taking shape thanks to their contributions, ideas, projects and active participation.
