Javier Tebas says Spain should rethink 2030 World Cup role if Morocco gets final | OneFootball

LaLiga president Javier Tebas said Spain should reconsider its role in the 2030 World Cup, co-hosted with Morocco and Portugal, if Gianni Infantino is re-elected and FIFA awards the final to Morocco.

According to El Periódico Mediterráneo, Tebas told reporters at the World Football Summit in Madrid that he is not sure about withdrawing, but believes everything Spain is doing around the tournament should be rethought.

He suggested Spain’s chances of staging the final would be minimal if Infantino, FIFA president since 2016, secures another term in elections scheduled for next March.

Tebas said Infantino is not credible and argued it would be a disgrace if he remained in charge. He cited an alleged intervention to overturn a red card during a World Cup as evidence of a wider pattern, and added that plans to privatise part of the competition’s commercial rights worry him least.

He also claimed a clientelist system leaves many federations dependent on FIFA money, which could aid Infantino’s continuation. On the prospects of an alternative candidate, he said it remains to be seen, noting 18 November as the deadline to present one. Tebas added he is not involved and suggested that endorsing anyone publicly could cost them votes.
