Eintracht Frankfurt are fretting over Jean-Matteo Bahoya’s Leeds United loan, with fresh clarity around his buy clause prompting concern.
Bild reports that the €30million, £26million obligation only activates if the France Under-21 winger makes 10 senior appearances for Leeds. He joined on a season-long loan that carries an obligation, but only if he reaches that mark.
Bahoya sealed a last-minute deadline-day switch to Elland Road, aided by Adam Underwood’s long-standing links with officials at the Bundesliga club.
The threshold has jarred in Germany. Frankfurt missed out on European competition last season, which increased pressure on head coach Adi Hutter. A late flurry of departures steadied a fragile truce, but banking Bahoya’s fee remains a key objective.
Bahoya’s start under Daniel Farke has been quiet. Before the international break he only featured as a late substitute in the 0-0 draw with Crystal Palace, so he sits on one appearance.
There is time on his side. Leeds still have 33 Premier League matches plus FA Cup ties, offering chances to reach the remaining nine outings needed to trigger the clause. On Tuesday 29 September he scored for France Under-21s in a 2-0 win over Estonia.
Even so, Farke will decide how quickly those appearance numbers mount as Leeds navigate a demanding season.
