The Albion club captain has spoken about how important it is for Daryl Dike and Tammer Bany to return to the first-team setup.

West Brom club captain Jed Wallace has outlined it is a “boost” for the Baggies to see Daryl Dike and Tammer Bany close in on a return to first-team training.

The duo, who have both suffered their fair share of injury troubles since signing in the Black Country, have been out of action since the beginning of August and have yet to taste any second-tier minutes so far this season.

American international Dike, who has sustained two torn Achilles injuries in his near four-year spell with the club, picked up a thigh issue before their season-opener against Blackburn Rovers and has been slowly reintegrated due to his past problems.

Meanwhile, Bany, whose Baggies career has yet to take off due to injury issues himself, picked up a hamstring complaint while chasing a deep cross in a pre-season friendly against Dynamo Kyiv, and has also been dealt with a great amount of care.

In an original update on West Brom’s club website, it was revealed Dike and Bany would be back in contention for first-team duties shortly after the September international break, but it’s been longer than expected for the two to feel comfortable returning to training.

However, in his pre-match press conference prior to the Leicester City clash, Albion boss Ryan Mason insisted the pair could be available for selection after the upcoming October international pause, meaning they may well be pencilled in to don the blue and white stripes again for a home clash against Preston North End on October 18th.

And with this news in mind, club captain Jed Wallace has reflected on the latest development and how important it will be to the playing squad for the remainder of the campaign.

As per the Express & Star, West Brom club captain Jed Wallace has reflected on Daryl Dike and Tammer Bany edging back to first-team training, believing it is a “boost” and will enhance competition for places.

Wallace said: "The group has received another little boost during the week, because Tammer Bany and Daryl Dike have returned to full training.

"The lads who joined late in the summer transfer window are fully settled in now too, which means competition for places is high.

"That will make us even stronger and drive standards as we push each other every day."

The ex-Millwall man was speaking before their outing against Leicester, and would have been bitterly disappointed to see his outfit concede a last-gasp equaliser to the Foxes after spurning multiple opportunities to kill off the game and seal what would have been a precious three points.

The return of Daryl Dike and Tammer Bany opens up new possibilities for Ryan Mason with his playing squad.

For the first time, the ex-Tottenham Hotspur coach will have three strikers to call upon in a matchday squad, which may allow him to test a front two partnership of Josh Maja and Aune Heggebo, something Mason has teased, but admitted he couldn’t use yet due to his threadbare forward line.

Meanwhile, Bany is a player who has shown glimpses of adding a creative spark in the final third, something Albion have desperately lacked in the early stages when Isaac Price hasn’t been at his best.

The reintroduction of Bany could well ease the burden on Price to consistently produce, while giving Mason the luxury of managing the Northern Ireland international’s minutes over a relentless campaign, as it is crucial the 22-year-old doesn’t miss a large portion of the term through an injury.

This duo will help the Baggies be healthier and well-stocked in the front areas to attack the second-tier campaign, while giving Mason some flexibility in his team selections and his calls from the substitutes bench, which could give Albion better routes to points over the coming weeks.
