Jed Wallace said he was "really lucky" to have built a strong bond with West Bromwich Albion supporters as he ends a four-year spell and joins Bristol City.
The 32-year-old left at the end of his contract after 150 appearances and 16 goals, and has signed a two-year deal at Ashton Gate. As reported by ExpressAndStar.com, he was a senior influence after arriving in 2022 and took the captaincy from Jake Livermore in 2023.
He said: "I had an amazing period at Millwall. I've been really lucky in my last two clubs that I felt I had a great connection with the fans and the people in the club." He hopes to help Michael Skubala’s side improve on last season’s 12th-place finish.
His final Albion start came in the 1-0 win at Bristol City in March, a first away victory in six months. He was a key regular under James Morrison after injury disrupted his first half of the season under Ryan Mason, then a muscle issue over the spring international break left him sidelined again. Morrison said he "could have cried" at the timing, and Wallace returned only for a late cameo in the final-day defeat at Sheffield Wednesday.
Wallace said he took family time after the campaign before weighing up offers with his representatives. His mother was born in Bristol and his grandparents still live in the city, factors that made the move attractive. He said he has often played well at Ashton Gate and now wants to deliver results and goals in red.
Former Albion winger Akeel Higgins, 21 this month, has joined Wigan on a free after turning down new terms, with Albion inserting a sell-on clause. He made one first-team appearance and called the switch a "no-brainer" after reuniting with Gary Caldwell. Wigan have also signed Hindolo Musptaha on loan, the former Albion loanee who featured twice last season after joining from Crystal Palace.
