Liverpool have confirmed that a consortium involving Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, ranked the fourth richest person in the world by Forbes, has become a minority shareholder.

The club said in a statement that a consortium had joined its shareholder base. Fenway Sports Group, the majority owner, announced the development on the club’s website.

The group comprises investments from Amit Bhatia, also a shareholder at Queens Park Rangers, and trusts of the Mittal family. It also includes K5 Sports, a fund of K5 Global in which Bezos is the principal investor, and EE Capital, the family office of Elaine and Eduardo Saverin, the Facebook co-founder.

The investment was described as strategic, intended to support Liverpool’s long-term growth ambitions by bringing together expertise from global business, technology and investment.

Completion remains subject to regulatory approvals and other customary closing conditions.
