Jérémy Doku details World Cup ordeal, hospital stay and dash home for son’s birth

Jérémy Doku has described a turbulent World Cup, battling a lung infection before leaving camp to witness the birth of his son. He recounts the episode in a documentary on his YouTube channel due on Sunday.

According to L'Équipe, the Manchester City and Belgium winger, 24, missed the second group match against Iran as the infection worsened and required a brief hospital stay. He then returned to London for the arrival of his son, Praise.

He felt the worst pain of his life, could not move and wanted to cry, and went to A&E at 1 am.

After being kept in hospital, he woke with a start to learn his wife’s waters had broken, so he travelled to England to join her. He felt he had to go to see his son.

He later held his newborn and is now trying to be the best father possible.
