After his surprise transfer to Corinthians Sao Paulo, Jesse Lingard is making headlines again after scoring his first goal in the Copa Libertadores for his new team. The former Manchester United attacker scored the second goal in a 2-0 group stage win over Uruguayan giants Penarol.

It was the 33-year-old’s first goal in his third game in South America’s highest competition. As of now, Lingard has worn his number 77 shirt nine times for Corinthians also scoring in the Copa do Brasil last week.

Speaking about his first two months in South America, Lingard praised his new club in the post game interview with Ge Globo: “It’s been wonderful. Everyone has made me feel very welcome and is helping me adapt. Of course, there’s a language barrier, which made it difficult at first, but I’ve been taking Portuguese lessons, and I hope to get the hang of it soon.

At Corinthians, Lingard is sharing the dressing room with former Manchester United and Barcelona striker Memphis Depay. However, the Dutch record goal scorer is out injured and could be leaving the Brazilian club after the World Cup due to financial reasons. Lingard’s contract, however, runs until the end of the season. After that, it is not unlikely that he will continue at Corinthians.
