Jhon Arias scored for Colombia against Ghana in the 2026 World Cup round of 32, earning a place in Palmeiras’ select group of World Cup scorers.

According to Nosso Palestra, the Colombian is the fourth foreign Palmeiras player to score at a World Cup while on the club’s books.

The sequence began with Francisco Arce, who found the net at the 2002 tournament in South Korea and Japan. The Paraguayan full-back represented Palmeiras from 1998 to 2002 and scored 57 goals for the club.

Twelve years later, Jorge Valdivia struck in Chile’s 3-1 win over Australia in their 2014 opener in Brazil. Until 2026, that had been the last World Cup goal by a Palmeiras player.

The drought ended this year when Maurício, naturalised as Paraguayan before the tournament, scored for Paraguay.

Arias is now the seventh Palmeiras player with a World Cup goal. The complete list reads Vavá with four, Jair Rosa Pinto and Mazzola with two each, plus Arce, Valdivia, Maurício and Jhon Arias.
