According to PaponaColina, Ecuador forward John Mercado, 24, has accepted Vasco’s salary terms and sporting project, and now awaits an agreement with Sparta Prague to complete a permanent move this window.

A representative from his management company has travelled to Europe to meet the Prague club’s hierarchy in a bid to unlock talks.

Vasco have tabled eight million euros, about R$ 49.6 million, for the striker’s economic rights. Sparta Prague countered at 10 million euros, roughly R$ 62 million, a figure reflecting their initial reluctance to sell.

The push comes as head coach Pedro Emanuel seeks quick solutions to sharpen the attack for the Campeonato Brasileiro, Copa do Brasil and Copa Sudamericana. Mercado brings pace on the flanks, one-on-one dribbling and finishing.

The intermediary is exploring instalments or bonuses to bridge the gap, while Vasco keep their offer on the table and aim to register him before the CBF deadline.

A product of Athletico-PR, John Mercado began in Brazil before moving to Europe, featuring for Oliveirense and AVS in Portugal and earning promotion with the latter, which led to his Sparta Prague switch. In the Czech Republic he has matured, plays on either wing and has featured in European competition, form that brought Ecuador caps.
