In recent weeks, there has been increasing speculation on Barcelona and their position in the European Superleague. Alongside Real Madrid, they are the only two clubs still part of the project, although there could soon only be one.
It’s been reported that Barcelona intend to abandon the Superleague project, and this has now been confirmed by Joan Laporta. Speaking to El Chiringuito de Jugones (via Diario AS), he revealed plans for the Catalan club to realign with UEFA.
“There is a very good relationship with Nasser (Al-Khelaifi, president of the European Club Association). Barcelona are for the pacification of European football. We want there to be an agreement and we go back to UEFA. This is what all the clubs want. We also come here to generate good harmony and to be able to reach this agreement.”

Laporta was also asked about the recent struggles that Barcelona have had on the pitch, following back-to-back defeats against Paris Saint-Germain and Sevilla. For him, there is no reason to panic.
“Deco made a very good reflection. We have just won three important titles last season and we are on the verge of the Champions League. That is also one more motivation for this year. What neither Deco nor Flick want is for there to be relaxation, to have the same intensity and the same spirit, the same desire as last year. In short, hunger.
“We continue to believe in the team and in Hansi Flick. I insist that Deco made some very accurate statements. We all know we have a very competitive team if we work hard. I know that Hansi and the players are going in this direction. We have to maintain this tension, which is why I value Flick and Deco as two very good reflections.”
